MEASURING MOISTURE IN MATERIALS

Determining the water content in materials is one of the first applications of Near IR Spectroscopy (NIRS). An important application would be to determine the water content of pharmaceutical products. Water is a critical parameter that has to be present in pharmaceutical products because it is a key compound for the stability of the product. The presence of two near IR bands centered at 1450 nm and 1940 nm makes these studies and quantification of water content possible. NIR spectroscopy is used to determine water content in powders, granulates, tablets or capsules.
